Assateague Island National Seashore is cared for and managed by the National Park Service, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and Department of Natural Resources. Assateague Island wild ponies travel the beach near Chincoteague, Virginia & Ocean City, Maryland. Assateague's south entrance is a 1/4 mile east of Chincoteague, its north entrance is eight miles from Ocean City. Chincoteague and Ocean City are gateways to Assateague Island and provide vacation lodging for outdoor recreation, nature tours to see wild ponies and more. The beach, wildlife, dunes, wetlands & marsh islands are protected for public outdoor recreation use and enjoyment.

Berlin - In February, 2014, Berlin was named Budget Travel’s Coolest Small Town in America and is up for the award again.  Travel back into the past with a stroll down Main Street in Berlin, Maryland. The path you walk is the same as that taken by the Assateague and Pocomoke Indians well before the colonial period. Later, the path became the Philadelphia Post Road, the main route connecting the centers of commerce to the north and west. This area was part of the Burley Plantation, a 300-acre land grant dating back to 1677
